Designing for grandparents: Beyond big buttons to true calm UX

When we surveyed how seniors interact with contemporary smartphones, we found two main friction points: overwhelming nested menus and accidental taps on tiny icons.
In Zentoja, when a user signs in with the Senior role, the entire interface transforms into a simplified, high-contrast sanctuary. There are only three primary actions on screen: (1) Confirm Today's Safety ('I Am Safe'), (2) View Today's Medicine Reminders, and (3) Emergency SOS.
Every button has a minimum touch target of 56px, high contrast ratios exceeding WCAG AAA guidelines, and haptic feedback. Even the sign-in experience doesn't require remembering complex passwords: an adult family member can simply link their elder's phone using a short 6-digit numeric pairing code.
By stripping away unnecessary graphs, badges, and complex settings, we return technology to its highest purpose: quiet reassurance.
